    The Cataloger is responsible for performing original and copy cataloging according to current standards, maintaining databases, ensuring authority control, providing training and inventory support for libraries. They also help resolve cataloging issues and assist in maintaining the online catalog. The Cataloger offers advice, demonstrations, and information on best practices and current cataloging policies. This is achieved by staying informed on relevant programs and services that help library staff provide quality information to patrons efficiently.

 

 

  • * Bachelor’s degree in Library And Information Science
  •  

* Experience: Open to fresh graduates or candidates with experience.

 

*  Language: Proficient in English communication, is a must.

 

*  Industrial experience and additional certifications will be considered advantageous.

 

*  The ability to engage collaboratively with faculty and students across various departments and programs is essential.

  1. 1. Perform original (including complex) and copy cataloging of a wide range of library materials, including books, journals, multimedia, and electronic resources, to ensure their identification, access, and use.

 

  1. 2. Interpret and apply cataloging standards such as MARC 21, RDA, AACR2, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, and Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) manuals in cataloging and classifying library materials.

 

  1. 3. Maintain authority records and perform necessary authority work within the library database to ensure data consistency and accuracy.

 

  1. 4. Consult with library staff to resolve cataloging and database issues, transmit relevant information, and discuss options for improving material handling and classification.

 

  1. 5. Develop and deliver training programs for library staff and other stakeholders to ensure efficient use of cataloging systems and best practices.

 

  1. 6. Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with internal staff, library members, and community leaders to promote collaboration and enhance library services.

 

  1. 7. Keep records of inquiries, complaints, and requests, ensuring accurate actions are taken for members.

 

  1. 8. Provide accurate and timely responses to inquiries, complaints, and requests, ensuring clear communication with members and colleagues.

 

  1. 9. Load MARC record files for member libraries and communicate necessary changes for consistency across records.
